What Is Fast DMS?

Fast DMS is a platform that matches mechanical engineers with manufacturers to get custom parts made fast.

Mechanical engineers submit parts that they need made to Fast DMS. We analyze the parts and get a few quotes from shops whose skillsets perfectly match up. Then, after the engineer OKs the quote, we get the parts made and chase them all the way to your dock. Each order is hand delivered same day!

Why We're Doing This

Fast DMS was built because a group of mechanical engineers were sick of wasting time quoting parts and then waiting weeks for them to arrive.

What are the reasons for the perceived 'delays' in a typical manufacturing cycle? As you probably already know, it isn't the machine run time. This is by no means the fault of the shops, though. They are simply running their businesses as well as possible with the tools they have. Even still, after speaking with many shops, up to 95% of the time from PO to delivery is not spent on actually working on any aspect of the job. They are waiting for material, tools, machine time, personnel time, and coatings and other subcontract operations.

This is exactly what we want to change! Fast DMS was born to create a different future, where lead-time is as close to machine run-time as possible.

How It's Done

Shops have unique skillsets, assets, material stocks, and workloads. Because Fast DMS has the time to gather in-depth knowledge about how individual shops operate, we efficiently match jobs with shops that have the appropriate availability.

When our users engage Fast DMS, they have more time to innovate.

Engineer FAQ's

How much does it cost?

The prices that you see are the prices that you pay, with the exception of coating, plating, and painting that will be in addition to the listed prices.

What file type is best to use?

Parasolid (.x_t) for the model and .pdf for the drawing are the best filetypes to use. You may also use sldprt, igs, iges, step, dwg, x_t, x_b, stp for the model.

What kind of industries do you serve?

Commercial Automation, Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, as well as some consumer products. This community of shops has depth in many fields.

How does purchasing work?

To purchase parts through Fast DMS, you send Fast DMS a purchase order, and we pay the shops. This is the most convenient way for you.

What is the "soonest ship date"?

Soonest ship date is the measurable piece of information about the shop's current workload. This is how we guage the ebb and flow of the shop's busyness.

Why isn't my .csv data in the correct columns?

In this case, your column's order is not matching what the software is expecting. Please refer to the image on the first page to model your .csv file after, or use the template provided.

Where is the due date option?

This application assumes that your due date is ASAP, and asks for each manufacturer's soonest ship date. Then, the buyer will be able to see which shop can ship the part soonest, as well as price, and make a decision. This application also makes manufacturer recommendations based on both time and price.

How do the NDAs work?

If you choose to include an NDA, each shop will be required to electronically sign it by checking a checkbox and filling in their PARTY B name. You will essentially have a 2 way NDA with each shop that wants to quote the parts. If you get a quote back, the shop has been required to electronically sign the NDA. Whether or not including an NDA in your RFQ is beyond the scope of this answer. With that said, requiring an NDA is a barrier that slightly reduces the number of shops quoting your job. Please don't hesitate contact us if you have more specific questions!

Shop FAQ's

How much does it cost?

Fast DMS is free for manufacturers. Just pay it forward to the engineer and give them a great ship date at a decent price!

How do I win jobs?

We focus on speed, so really quote your best lead times. That is the simplest explaination.

With that said, we try to only send you jobs that you will succeed at. That way we only need to send parts to 2-3 shops to see who has the best availability.

How do I submit my quote?

When a job comes though that matches up with your shop's strengths, we will send you an email with a link. That link allows you to access the associated model and drawing, as well as enter in your lead time and price.

Use the link that you are emailed to submit your quote. Also, that link is unique to you, so do not share it.

How do you know my strengths?

We start with a phone conversation and basically "take notes" on what you like and what your shop is tailored to. As we work together more, we learn about you more.

How do I get paid?

The purchasing process is exactly the same as normal. You will receive a PO from the engineer or from Fast DMS and work out your regular terms and conditions at that time.

What is the "soonest ship date"?

Soonest ship date is the measurable piece of information about your shop's current workload. This is how we gauge the ebb and flow of your shop's busyness. Your experience using Fast DMS will be highly correlated to how accurately you use this field.
